Most of us take for granted the bed that we sleep in. We also know that we can go to a local furniture store, pick out a new mattress, and it will potentially help us sleep better at night. However, mattresses have not always been around. Although there were beds that were raised up off of the ground, going back as far as the Neolithic period, it was not until the 1900s that spring beds were actually manufactured. Until that time, they were typically stuffed with wool or cotton, providing people with a much better surface than simply sleeping on the floor. Let’s go over the history of beds, and how we came to have the unique and innovative styles that we use today that can provide us with back support.
